Getting called out of class for burning down your neighbour’s house isn’t an everyday thing. Her house burning down wasn’t my fault, but I can’t say I wasn’t the reason it happened. Either way, Miss Dune should have been glad. Without that fire, she would have been in prison for murder.

I obviously didn’t mean to save her. After all, she did kill me. To be honest, if I had known I’d spontaneously combust, I wouldn’t have put myself in that situation. I can’t say the same about knowing that I was going to die though.

My friends and I believe Miss Dune was the Harwich County Killer. She threatened us with one of the same lines that the killer used used in their letter to the police 30 years ago. All we did was accidentally kick a ball into her garden.

I drew the short straw of sneaking into her house to get our ball, but she caught me and knocked me out. I only remember being hit around the head and then dreaming. I woke up seeing fire.

Waking up hurt. My cells were literally burning from the inside out just to fix my wounds. I was being reborn like a phoenix. I think, in that moment, I was a phoenix. We never got our ball back.
