👶🏽

Joyce never fed her son. She never needed to. Donovan showed no any signs of hunger since the moment he was born into the world. And yet, despite neither food nor drink entering the boy’s body, he grew like any other child. Joyce wasn’t surprised though. She adopted him from Hell after all.

Actually, Hell was just the description of the place Donovan came from. In her young adult years, small portals often opened in front of Joyce. Through the small windows she saw, strangely familiar, fickle planes of existence. When she reported them to her priest though, of course she was led to believe that they were visions of Hell.

Joyce needed to repent. Somewhere along the lines of her life, she’d sinned and God was warning her about her impending judgement. Father Callum had a respectable guess but they weren’t visions of Hell. He hadn’t seen what Joyce had seen. And Hell doesn’t spit out children.

The night before the portal spat Donovan out, Joyce saw him. Every morning she would forget, but Donovan’t birth reminded her of her recurring dream. Joyce dreamed of having the boy and raising him in the scenes that revisited her during the day. Donovan was born from his mother’s mind. She would have been living in hell if he wasn’t.
