A Second for the Sinner
“We lost you for a second there.”
The doctor smiled, so relieved that they’d stopped my body from dying. The light was bright. I covered my eyes and tried to sit up.
“You’re recovering quickly! That’s a good sign.”
I breathed in the air. My nose collected in the air and my lungs filled like buckets. It was clean, almost odourless. Well anything would’ve been odourless compared to Hell.
“Can you tell us your name?”
My heart skipped a beat. I had a heart now. A beating heart. What was my name supposed to be?
“Ok how about where you are right now? Do you know where you are?”
I did know where I was. I was on Earth, up above. There’s Hell and there’s Here. And I worked very hard to get Here. But I don’t think that was the right answer. I kept quiet.
“Is he okay?”
There was a woman there. A doctor and a woman. She looked concerned. I don’t know who she was.
“Well there was no brain damage but we did lose him for a second. I think he’s just in shock and needs some rest.”
Actually, they lost my body for a second. They lost the other guy forever.
