Shortbread
They found shortbread crumbs at both murder scenes. It wasn’t much worth considering the first time since the victim had shortbread still in his digestive system. The second time they saw it though, they were concerned. The Rise of the Shortbread Murderer. It wouldn’t have been funny if he joined the list of uncaught serial killers.
They knew it was shortbread because that was what it said on the biscuit box. How shortbread could be linked to the murder was what they had to figure out. A family man, and a university student. Anyone looking from the outside would have said they weren’t connected. But it was a small town, everything was connected. And these two murders were particularly connected by a sweet British biscuit.
Unlike the family man, the university student hadn’t bought shortbread before his death. But both had the good resting in their quiet stomachs. It took one detective a quiet afternoon to reach the theory that these victims were not victims at all. They were thieves. The suspect… or the real victim: The family man’s son; the university student’s classmate. You don’t eat someone else’s shortbread biscuit.
