Storytime

“It says here in your CV, you saved the life of a nine year old girl when you were studying in India.” Russell was laid back in his chair and Selina could see through the screen that he was wearing a plain blue t-shirt.

“Yes. It does say that.” Selina confirmed.

“Do you want to tell me about that?”

Selina swallowed a discreet gulp and readied herself to tell the story.

“Well, I just had my twentieth birthday so I left the country on a high. One of my older friends- who also went on an exchange year, told me that it was probably going to be one of the best and most memorable years of my life but that I also needed to remain hyper-vigilant and careful. She said people tend to relax when they’re on holiday and take a lot more risks than they would normally do when they’re at home.

“I was a bit worried honestly, but I thought ‘okay, I’ll just keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour. One day, I noticed an older woman talking to a young girl. Everything seemed pretty normal until I noticed the girl uneasily looking around. I went up to them and pretended like I knew the girl. She pretty much jumped on me, going along with what I said and then leading the conversation once I’d run out of things to say. The girl and I walked off together and she told me, that was her aunt’s friend and that she was trying to get her to date her son.

“Okay.” Russell said after an astounded pause. “That does show some reasonable attention to detail and problem solving skills, but what does it have to do with this job?”

“Nothing. I just like to talk about it when asked.”
