The Search for the Cloud of Gold

There is a cloud with coating like gold that most will never see in any of their lifetimes. It doesn’t grant you a wish. It doesn’t increase your wealth. It doesn’t heal wounds. But if you find it, you’ll never want for more.

I heard about it first from my parents. They grew up with the half-lost myths. There may only be one of them in the world but anyone can find it. So all my early life, since I read more in forgotten lore, I searched for this cloud with coating like gold.

From what I read, the only way to find it was to first get lost: wander with no aim; explore with no goal. If you’re like me, the cloud with coating like gold will choose you.

It will come once, first as any ordinary cloud, but with a peculiar glow under a sunless sky. Then the glow will grow into a coating like gold, brightening up even the night. After the cloud has taken you in, it will rise up into the heavens. As will your worries, fears, dreams and aspirations. Don’t go searching for this gold coated cloud. I wish I knew then what I know now.
